You'll have to manually switch audio stream at the start of playback but it will be the simplest option unless you would like to mess around with mkvtoolnix to edit the audio channel order for every movie. If the failover to DTS isn't consistent then disable DTS-HD Capable receiver as a passthroughable codec and kodi should more reliably play the DTS core instead.Īssuming you are getting your movies from places then because of the way TrueHD is designed it doesn't have a core+metadata design like DTS-HD MA does, as such the 'rules' are that all releases must have a secondary AC3 5.1 audio stream.

It probably doesn't support DTS-HD MA 7.1 but when it fails it drops the extra HD MA 7.1 metadata stream and fails back to the core DTS 5.1 track.

If it isn't present then it definitely doesn't work.Ĭongratulations, your TV supports passthough of DTS from apps to eARC. It probably won't work and all you'll get is silence but the only way to know is to try. If there is an option for TrueHD enable it and try the TrueHD Atmos 7.1 stream again. Don't worry that you've set the number of channels to 2.0, this only affects audio codecs that can't be passed through, and since those are limited by your TV to 2.0 don't worry about it.īecause TV manufacturers don't publish this stuff you need to test the following. When you set your number of speakers to 2.0 the option to perform AC3 transcoding appears in the passthrough section under Dolby Digital (AC3) capable receiver. You'll want to use the TV (AC3) option as an initial guide, until you get down to the list of what passthrough codecs to enable. Not sure if there might be some settings i can change to get things to work consistently?ĮDIT: Solved! Thanks to /u/augur42 post below- switched Kodi back to 2.0 speaker output and enabled AC3 transcoding option. Have tried disabling pass through on Kodi, and selecting different audio output modes on the tv but nothing seems to help.

Other apps on android TV output multi channel audio no problem (Netflix etc). I have had audio streams labelled as DTS-HD 7.1 work, and others labeled as AAC 5.1 not work. Currently watching something with AAC 7.1 according to Kodi, but receiver shows 2.0 PCM. However when I try to play SOME video files with multi channel audio, my receiver only outputs 2 channel audio. I have kodi set to pass through audio output, and my TV set to pass through audio output. Not sure if it's a Kodi problem or not, but I'm going to start here.Īudio is output via HDMI ARC to a Sony str-dn860 7.1 receiver. I seem to be having some issues outputting multi channel audio on my android TV.
